It is a lot of Errors!
Icons jump on a desktop
I’m sorry, I don’t understand. Icons are meant to “jump”, since DeskSpace supports different icons on each desktop. You said that there’s a lot of errors, but you only mentioned the desktop icon behavior. What are the other error you’ve seen?
Regarding desktop icon management, we’re seriously considering turning it off by default for new users, as too many people are left wondering where their icons go when they switch desktops. Does anyone have any opinion on this?
This software is awesome! I bought it! By the way… I have a question about this, can I have more than 6 desktops? I need 16 desktops believe or not… If you happen to say, a cube has 6 spaces… then I would reply, add another cube ^_^.
Also, the “cube spin” transition is great, but would be nice if there’s more options… mainly I’m looking for a “slide” transition that you can setup from left to right, vise versa and top to bottom, vise versa.
Thanks! Great Job guys!
Hi Jun,
Thank you very much for supporting DeskSpace.
More desktops and transitions are planned, but it’s a lot of work to add them in, so they probably won’t be available until version 2.
Priya has sent you an email, if you let her know how you’d like to use the 16 desktops and transitions then she’ll try and figure out if there’s anything we can do to help you.
DeskSpace 1.5.7.2 can works for windows xp X64?
Hi Rony,
Yes, DeskSpace will work with Windows XP x64. If you have any questions or run into any problems please let me know and I’ll be happy to help.
Great piece of software guys
We got you listed on BST Download so more people will be able to use it
Keep up the good work.
Hi there!
Grats on your excellent job with Deskspace.
Let me tell you, I tried Bumptop and Fences and your app is by far the best, most reliable and stable one.
However, what would you think on releasing a “Free” version just like those other two apps?
Being Deskspace the better choice, it’s kind of unfair it doesn’t have the press coverage and distro it deserves.
I would be very happy to see it mentioned on sites like http://www.maximumpc.com
Also, turning off icon management as default might not confuse new users at firts, but then, they just might not know how to truly exploit the benefit of having different desktops with different icons.
Maybe, this could be solved running some kind of quick explanatory intro or tutorial.
When i used to run linux I used a program called Beryl to do this. Now I have to run windows and I’m happy that I can still have the same effect. Great work guys! Also I’m running 3 monitors, and each monitor has it’s own separate cube. I love this! You guys did an awesome job! Thanks.
gueneal: Thank you very much for your kind words, we’re really glad to hear you enjoy using DeskSpace!
Guillo: Our main concern with giving away a free version is that we’ll destroy our current revenue stream, which is what funds DeskSpace development. Bumptop has VC funding, so they can give it away free and still pay for development, and Fences has the benefit of being funded by StarDock, a multi-million dollar company. We don’t want to give DeskSpace away for free and then be forced to stop development when our revenue dries up. Having said that we’ll think about releasing a stripped down free version.
Maybe we should turn it off but have a tutorial that explains what it does and how to turn it on. Our worry with keeping it turned on is that not everyone will bother to read the tutorial, even if we pop it up right in front of them (they’ll just think it’s an annoying pop up and hit the close button).
gueneal, how did you get a cube for each monitor? im running dual monitor and the cube shows on the primary and when i switch to another desktop then the second monitor changes as well
rranger88: The cube will only display on each monitor if your graphics card is capable of displaying a 3D scene on each monitor at the same time. If, for example, there aren’t enough graphics card resources to display the cube on the second monitor, then DeskSpace will only show the cube on the primary monitor.
What kind of video card do you have, and do you have the latest drivers installed?

I am using Win7 32Bit and desktop gadgets from http://blog.orbmu2k.de/ .
Since I try DeskSpace 1.5.7.2, I notice that the gadgets stop working sometimes.
EinerVonDenen: Is there a series of events I can follow to reproduce this problem? For example, do the gadgets stop working after you switch desktops? How do they stop working (do they just freeze up, or does something else happen)?
callyoushock: When you have Desktop Icon Management enabled (that is, DeskSpace is set up to show different icons on each desktop), DeskSpace will disable Auto Align and Align To Grid, because this feature doesn’t work if they are enabled.
I’m also facing some problems with gadgets under Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit (like freezing of information displayed by gadget) after I cycle through desktops via cube. Some gadgets are not affected (such that do not display real-data information), but such like System Monitor (www.buildagadget.com), Weather Center (weathercenter.narod2.ru), Digital Clock (www.digitaldutch.com), etc., freeze displayed info on them and only restart of gadget fix them. Any idea ehat could be the problem? The strange thing is that there is a small % when gadgets are not affected from cycling desktops, but finaly they freeze.
Cherokee: DeskSpace *does* show or hide the gadgets when you cycle between desktops, but that shouldn’t cause any problems. Do you see this behavior with the built-in Windows Gadgets?
James Stewart: I do not use default windows gadgets (do not like them ), so I answer is I do not know (will give a try). But I notice something else which may solved the issue. I set DeskSpace one day ago to show gadgets on all VD (previously they show only on Desktop 1) and since then mentioned gadgets stop to freeze, no matter how many times I cycle through VD. Nw everything works as it should. Any idea why this solve the issue?
Cherokee: If the gadgets are set to appear on all desktops then DeskSpace will never hide them. What we think is happening is that the gadgets you’re using can’t handle being hidden – they incorrectly assume a “hide” event means the gadget is being closed, and therefore stop whatever they’re doing.
At the moment we don’t have a solution, save to say that all Windows programs are supposed to know the difference between being hidden and being closed
When you change position of a cube that icons fit on each other.
At me Windows 7!
This error is incorrigible.
On a desktop porridge from Icons!
So always if you will turn cubic…

This!!!
Valera: Does right-clicking on the Desktop and selecting “View -> Auto Arrange” bring the icons back?
Are you using any other programs that change the desktop icons?
No!
I know it.
Automatic alignment works only once!
It means that it is necessary to do it constantly.
Porridge on a desktop not only at me.
If you can help me out by answering my questions, such as are you using any other programs that change the desktop icons, then it will really help me solve the problem you’re experiencing.
Your desktop icons are being reset to the same position each time. Since DeskSpace only saves icon positions, something else must be setting them. The problem may be as simple as you using an app like StarDock Fences.
Greetings!
I do not use other programs!
The trial licence at me has ended on your program.
I think that I will not buy it.
Probably in one year something to change!
Thanks!
I’m very sorry to hear that, but I understand.
I’d really like to help you, but it’s very hard to fix a problem without any information. Unfortunately that requires that I ask some brief questions and you provide answers. This enables me to determine why there’s a problem and how I can fix it for you. There could be a very simple fix for the problem you’re experiencing, for example you could be using an old version of DeskSpace.
I understand there’s a language barrier. Perhaps next time I’ll suggest we use Google Translate to communicate.
I keep lots of files on my desktop. I’d like to have different desktops that would have different kinds of files on each one. Can I move files from one desktop to another with your program? Also, currently for backup purposes, for the desktop, I designate a different folder other than the default Windows XP folder. Will I be able to to that with your software? Thanks.
Hi Larry,
Yes, with DeskSpace you can have different desktops with different kinds of files on each.
DeskSpace works with whichever folder is considered the “Desktop” folder, so it shouldn’t make any difference if you use a different folder.
If you have any other questions about how DeskSpace works with desktops or run into any problems please let me know and I’ll be happy to help.
Any chance of using a cylinder instead of a cube? This would allow for more than 4 virtual desktops and looks good as well. Thanks for a great product!
Scott: It’s a great idea. We’ll be adding other layouts, including a cylinder and grid, in a future version of DeskSpace.
is this will work on Windows 7 64Bit Edition ?
Hi Steven,
Yes, DeskSpace is fully compatible with Windows 7 64-bit edition (and all other 64-bit editions of Windows).
Couple of questions/comments.
Any way to turn off unused desktops? I really only would like to use 3 and this would simplify toggling through them.
Sounds like a grid layout is coming. Would really like to see this.
I have a Desktop Application Rule setup to always show Outlook but it is only showing in the status bar on the Desktop that it was created in. Am I misunderstanding the purpose of the Desktop App Rules?
Thanks!
Hi Mike,
Thanks a lot for your comments.
There’s currently no way to turn off unused desktops, but we’ll be adding this feature in a future version. Grid layout is also on the way, but probably not until at least the end of the year.
Desktop application rules only apply to the actual desktop window, not system tray icons. Do you see the Outlook window on all desktops?
No, I only see it on one desktop.
Vista SP2; Outlook 2007 (latest SP); NVIDIA GeForce 7 series (latest NVidia driver)
Thanks for the roadmap on features; turning off desktops really wouldn’t be necessary for me if you had grid layout. I’m finding it difficult to visualize spatially which why to orient the cube to get to the desktop that I want. I’ll be trying hotkeys next.
Also, I should mention that I am running 3 monitors.
if i buy the program do i get the future version as well? of do i need to buy them again?
Hi Sasson,
If you buy the program you get every version up to version 1.9.9 for free, and you can upgrade to version 2.0 (when it eventually comes out) for a small fee.
and in how much pc’s can i install it if i buy 1?
its a great software!
but ill wait.
sasson: You can install it on as many PC’s as you want, as long as you are the only user of the software.
Can I ask what you’re going to wait for? Version 2.0?
yep. or when i have more mony… (so my wife wont get mad)
I am using the trial version right now, and I would like to buy the full version, but the main reason I want it is to have different icons on each desktop. However, when I click “desktop icons” under “manage,” nothing happens. If this doesn’t work, then I don’t want to buy the product. Is this just a feature of the trial version?
sasson: OK then
Charlie: When you tick the “Show different icons on each desktop” option in the “Manage Desktop Icons” dialog and then click “Save Changes”, all your icons should disappear from every desktop except the first (you’ll only see this when you actually switch to other desktops), and you should be able to then use the “Manage Desktop Icons” dialog to choose which icons are shown and hidden on each desktop. Do you see this behavior, and if not, what do you see instead?
downloaded the trial version would like to purchase but I need the position of the start bar to be changed for different desktops. When you change the start bars position now and change the desktop it will automatically change the bars location to what it was on the desktop you moved it.
Is there a setting to avoid this?
Hi Mike,
Unfortunately DeskSpace currently doesn’t support different taskbar positions on each desktop, so there isn’t a setting to avoid this. However, we’ll be adding this feature in a future version, most probably v1.5.9 or v1.6.
Hi I’m having an issue with windows 7 gadgets. I’m organising different gadgets on different desktops but after the system is restarted all the gadgets are displayed on the first desktop. Isa there anything that i can do to fix this problem??
